And coming to the questions you have asked...
I am pretty sure even GOD(If you consider the possibility of His/Her existance in literal sense) has no answer for these questions... I may sound foolish or say stupid or Idiotic or paranoid..
Irony is, there is every possibility that the "first physicist" was looking for something else or searching for some unrelated answers and accidentally came across the situation that made him/her whatever he/she bacame later in life or came to be known as!!!
the same thing must have happened with others as well....
